How every number is arrived at

  • • Unit weight = d² ÷ 162.2 kg per metre, from (π/4)d² × 7850 kg/m³.
  • • Number of bars = clear distance ÷ spacing + 1 (one bar sits at each end).
  • • Cut length of a straight bar = clear length − cover both ends + 9d bend at each end.
  • • Stirrup / tie cut length = 2 × (width + depth inside cover) + 24d for the two hooks.
  • • Column verticals carry one lap of 50d per storey.
  • • Weight of a bar set = nos × cut length × unit weight.
