How we got this

  1. 1

    Net painted area

    A = (Wall length × Height + Ceiling − Openings) × No. of such rooms

    = (0 × 0 + 0 − 0) × 1

    = 0 m²

  2. 2

    Total area to cover

    A = Painted area × No. of coats

    = 0 × 0

    = 0 m²

  3. 3

    Paint volume

    Litres = A / Coverage

    = 0 / 0 m² per L

    = 0 litres

  4. 4

    Packing

    Cans = ceil(Litres / 4 L)

    = ceil(0 / 4)

    = 0 cans of 4 L

    Buy 20 L buckets where the quantity allows — the rate per litre drops.

  5. 5

    Surface preparation

    Putty = Area × 1.2 kg/m² ; Primer = Area / Coverage

    = 0 × 1.2 kg and 0 / 0

    = 0 kg putty · 0 L primer

The theory behind it

Method used: Coverage-rate method — spreading rate per litre, IS 2395 painting practice

Paint quantity = painted area × number of coats ÷ spreading rate. The spreading rate printed on the can (usually 10–14 m²/L per coat for emulsion) already accounts for a normal, puttied surface; a rough or fresh plaster surface drinks far more on the first coat.

Assumptions used

  • •Coverage 10 m²/litre per coat unless you change it.
  • •Primer: 1 coat at the same coverage.
  • •Wall putty ≈ 1.2 kg/m² for 2 coats.
  • •Area is the net painted surface after deducting openings.
