Cut the long pieces first, exactly as listed, and the offcut left over is only 30.1 kg of steel across the whole project.

Detailing notes

•Crank option: if alternate bottom bars are bent up instead of separate top bars, add 2 × 0.42 × 75 mm = 63 mm to the main bar cutting length.
•Main bar spacing ≤ 3d or 300 mm (IS 456 Cl. 26.3.3(b)).
•Minimum steel in a slab = 0.12% of gross area for Fe500 (Cl. 26.5.2.1).
